YURODIVY 'Aphos' Gatefold LP
Like a metaphoric tale, the album trace the story of a fish which decided to leave the cold and dark sea bed to swallow the sun and bring it back into the abyss.
The title “Children Of The Sun” captures the division of a people that is facing a system settled by former generations that is now beyond their control. In this tale, it is the moment when the sun, brought on the seafloor as something positive, is dividing everyone. Using material from the Battleship Potemkin movie and linking it with the current state of our society seemed for us a good way to represent the analogy of the lyrics of this song, and, by extension, of the whole disc.
“In The Violence Of The Ashes” is the 8th chapter of Aphos. It is the key moment in the story told in this album. It illustrates our heroin's journey towards the earth center, a concious fall towards hell, this moment when it becomes necessary to touch the bottom to become aware of real problems.
RESONANCE CASCADE | JÄRNBÖRD Split LP
WOOAAARGH and the mighty EveryDayHate & Downfall Records will release Hyperakusi (Swedish word that means hypersensitivity to everyday sounds), an insane split album from Swedish grind bands RESONANCE CASCADE and JÄRNBÖRD. Hyperakusi will be released on February 24, 2017 as a limited edition vinyl, CD and digital download.
RESONANCE CASCADE is first up on Hyperakusi and their high speed, Insect Warfare inspired assault is addictive. The tracks here just rage forward, glorifying in the filth but also blazing forward at a speed unmatched by mortal man. RESONANCE CASCADE understand the gritty glory of grindcore and the chaotic riffing that defines a song like Bricks is strangely mesmerizing. JÄRNBÖRD on the other hand feel distinctly more old school, their primitive drum tone and shouted vocals cranking forward angrily. THIS ENDS HERE | CONQUEROR WORM Split LP
Two UK bands combine to produce a record to reflect the bleak realities of the modern world. A record that evokes the dark, miserable and disorienting experience of watching humanity destroy itself.
The This Ends Here side of this intriguing split is 18 minutes that claim to be five songs but could be anything from one to a dozen depend on who’s counting, proving the potential for modern crust to incorporate a challenging variety of musical genres. It opens with Seeds, a continuation of the sound on the 2014 Afterwards 7“ - anthemic d-beat breaking into heavy riffage – before careening through a chaotic collection of styles including punk, doom and post-rock and finally descending into a bleak, atmospheric outro. Lyrically, the themes of environmental and social collapse run throughout these songs, with a haunting sample from Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, whilst musically evoking emotions such as anger, despair and even hope that accompany these dark themes.
Conqueror Worm are a three piece bass and drums deathgrind band that combine the viciousness of bands like 324 and Fear of God with the atmosphere of Gorguts and the barbarism of Celtic Frost. This release sees them exploring dungeon-crawling grind that is equal parts cavernous and ear-splitting. A roughly hewn collection of very nasty tunes, the tracks lyrically and thematically mirror the This Ends Here side- songs about the eradication of nature are paired with reflective sci-fi themed blasts and a fizzing, noise-laden production. Drawing from doom and noise influences the bass runs through as many amps and distortion pedals as possible creating a truely monolithic cloud of noise, occasionally penetrated by swarming blast beats and tortuous, wailed vocals in the vein of Khanates Alan Dubin.
OFFRET s/t 12inch EP
Without crossing too far over specific genre borders, the debut EP from Russian one-man act OFFRET allows a little more variety and casts author Andrey Prokofiev as someone of a dark metal modernist.
His offering is based on acoustic guitar and trombones framework distorted by Sunn Model T amp bass, and presents an unparalleled sense of wonder within each song.
Perhaps Andrey should have added a bit more colour to the canvas, but this work was not crafted to entertain the kids.

THE MANSTERS s/t 10"
Norwegians The Mansters certainly know what it takes to make a ‘proper’ punk record. You don’t hear it very often these days – most bands this good tend to succumb, even if just a little, to turn their punk rage into metal bluster – but these boys certainly have the knack of avoiding such an elementary pitfall. They manage to fit ten tracks onto this EP in ten and a half minutes playing time, the vast proportion of which plough a vague early eighties NYHC furrow of catchy riffs and shouted vocals.

BEAST AS GOD | CROWS Split 7"
Nottingham’s finest metallic hardcore crew Beast As God are due to release a split seven inch with raging Irish hardcore punks Crows this March, and you can hear the whole thing here first.
Featuring members of bands like Moloch, Dead In The Woods and Huffin’ Paint, Beast As God are a real force to be reckoned with. The song ‘At The End Of The Path’ is the quintet’s first new material since their crushing 2013 demo, and their seething metallic hardcore still sounds as potent as ever. Just don’t call it “metalcore”, however; this is more in tune with the likes of Integrity and Unruh than any of the bands who sullied that phrase in the early 2000s.
Meanwhile, Crows offer up three unbelievably vicious tracks in six minutes, bringing to mind the visceral, d-beat laden battery of bands like His Hero Is Gone. These songs contain all the furious riffery, cathartic screams and pitch-shifted Werner Herzog samples you’ll need to get you through another day. If you were wondering how they were going to top the intensity of 2014’s ‘Better Off Dead’ opus, then visit bandcamp, hit play and prepare to have your head ripped clean off!!
ILENKUS 'Hunger' 7"
ILENKUS' new EP 'Hunger' shows their sound developed in a more direct and intense direction. Downtuned guitars, amplified aggression and increased noise all culminate to create an imposing and powerful batch of songs.
'Hunger' is ILENKUS' third release and takes their music in a darker and more violent direction. The EP contains four short, chaotic and cathartic bursts of grinding post metal; 14 minutes of controlled noise and raw energy. Recorded, engineered and mixed by Aidan Cunningham (Murdock) and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (The Armed, Sunn 0))), Nails, Old Man Gloom).
